Helene St. James: Quick playoffs exit exposed Detroit Red Wings' weaknesses, so now what? | Detroit Free Press | freep.com
This next offseason is going to be an interesting one to say the least. We have a decent amount of cap space to make any moves we want to make, and we have the compliance buyout that we may use if we so choose. For me, the most interesting part will be whether Holland decides to target any free agents or if he is fine promoting the young players and going from there. Either way, our GM has a big job on his hands.

Drew Sharp: Give Detroit Red Wings' Johan Franzen a chance to kick like mule again | Detroit Free Press | freep.com
I am fully against buying out Johan Franzen. For one, his production is still great for a player who earns his cap hit. And while it is important to plan for the future, 3-4 years is a long time in the future. Honestly, I would rather have another 3-4 years of Franzen and then we can deal with him and his contract. Remember, the problem with Franzen's contract is not his cap hit, its the term.
