‘I just want to play again’: Red Wings’ Danny DeKeyser on the way back after lost season – The Detroit News

The article starts with the good news of the recent arrival of DeKeyser’s second child recently, a happy healthy girl, and continues to discuss how DK’s preseason back pain progressed until his season-ending surgery and the look going forward.

Trips to Little Caesars Arena to work with the Wings’ training staff ended, but DeKeyser has a good enough gym at home, where he’s been able to continue working out.

DeKeyser thinks he’s about 90 percent to where he needs to be and is eager to get back on the ice.

“Though I don’t know when that’ll be,” DeKeyser said. “Maybe over the next six weeks or so things will slowly start to open up.

“I just want to start skating again and get back out there and play again.”

Any sort of back surgery is always a concern for a pro athlete. But DeKeyser said he received complete assurances from doctors his hockey ability won’t be compromised going forward.

Oilers’ Colby Cave, 25, dies after suffering brain bleed – ESPN

Cave’s wife, Emily, released a statement confirming the news.

”It is with great sadness to share the news that our Colby Cave passed away this morning,” the statement said. “Both our families are in shock but know our Colby was loved dearly by us, his family and friends, the entire hockey community and many more. We thank everyone for their prayers during this difficult time.”

Terrible tragedy for the Cave family losing Colby at such a young age. My deepest condolences to them.

In site news I want to bid a fond official WIIM farewell to Jeff, who announced on yesterday’s Quick Hits that it would be his last. I’m still going to be friends with him, but here on WIIM, we’re losing the guy who we could always count on to remind us that hope is not a strategy.

Also stay tuned to the site for a new episode of Fer Sure dropping tomorrow morning.
