Hopefully you all had a nice holiday — we’re entering the quiet part of the NHL offseason, so get ready to be bored.
Red Wings Rumblings
Not much here, but I would like to highlight Connor Earegood’s piece over at The Hockey News that focuses on Detroit’s internal growth. The article highlights Alex DeBrincat, Lucas Raymond, Patrick Kane, and the team’s scoring woes last season:
“Yzerman has been thinking about goal totals, running the sum of goals in and goals out as his team evolved through the free agency period. On one side, his team lost 75 goals to free agency, On the other, his team gained 35 from free agents. The difference, a deficit 40 goals, is 14.5% of last season’s total production.”
Basically, Yzerman expects everyone to do their part to improve scoring next season… Which is a great expectation to have, assuming we can stay healthy.
Also, a big congrats to the Detroit Jr Red Wings for winning the 2024 Brick Invitational Championship over the weekend:

No more college hockey for the 1st overall pick. That’s the right call for him, what else does he have left to prove in the NCAA?
List of players who filed for salary arbitration
Joe Veleno is included on this list. For those who don’t know what this means, it’s basically a player seeking a third party to figure out their salary for the upcoming season.
