Red Wings Rumblings

I think this team may finally be breaking me.

As I watched last night — a 4-1 loss in Philadelphia (one guy scored all four goals for the Flyers!!) where the Red Wings showed zero pulse until the closing minutes only to get scored on twice with an empty net, I thought to myself “why am I watching this?” That’s the first time I have felt such a way since the 2019-2020 regular season when Detroit won just 17 games. Hell, this team has impacted my drive to want to produce stories and articles for you fine people. It’s really a sad state of affairs for this franchise.

Something needs to change, but I’m afraid that won’t come until the season is over. Derek Lalonde and his coaching staff have no juice, and clearly no influence over their players. I noted this on social media last night, and many seem to agree — this team is in need of a coach who will be HARD on them. It appears that these players are getting very little from this staff — no accountability, creativity, discipline, fundamentals… I mean, the list goes on.

Winning one game after a losing streak only to get dog-walked is becoming a calling card for this team. And you know what? It’s on the players, too. Patrick Kane is absolutely unwatchable right now and has earned time as a healthy scratch. Unfortunately there’s no accountability on this team, so he can continue to get his cardio in every game and then go home. Perhaps it’s not an “interest” thing for Kane and he legitimately just cannot perform because of his health. The numbers speak for themselves, yet he stays in the lineup. That’s just one example — out of many other players who are downright ineffective.

I sense a little bit of complacency out of the front office, personally. It was an awfully lackluster offseason for Steve Yzerman with a handful of miscalculations, and that is showing with the on-ice product. I still think he drafts well, so the whole “rebuild” thing is something I’m willing to wait on. I’d just really like to see a shakeup of some sort. Waive or trade a player. Swallow your pride and get rid of someone to send a message not just to the players, not the just the coaching, but the fans as well.

end of rant. happy friday.

At least Buffalo sucks, but they’ve been rebuilding since Lucas Raymond was in grade school.

Zegras to Miss Time After Knee Surgery

Bummer for the kid and the Ducks. He’ll miss six weeks.

10 Straight Road Wins for Capitals

The Red Wings narrowly missed the playoffs last season — the Capitals squeaked by them as a wild card team and got their asses handed to them in the first round. Well, guess what? They’re one of the NHL’s hottest teams this season. Apparently you CAN improve a team during the offseason. Novel concept.
