Something About Future Considerations
Daniel Sprong’s tenure with the Vancouver Canucks is over. He’s been traded to Seattle for the always-valuable Future Considerations. Sam Stockton has a write-up about the trade and how it reflects on some players simply not fitting into a team’s culture. While this was one example, we always talk about how awful the trade for Jake Walman was — Detroit paid another team to take him on, even though he was a productive player during his time here. Walman has already been a healthy scratch for his new team, and it wasn’t injury-related, but disciplinary:
“Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky initially thought the defenseman would play against the Minnesota Wild on Nov. 7, but the injury held him out. Warsofsky said he would’ve been a game-time decision against the Blue Jackets if the disciplinary action hadn’t occurred.”
This reaffirms what many had thought before — Maybe Walman simply didn’t fit into the team like Detroit wanted him to, and that may have caused some rifts in the locker room. The trade still stings at face value, but we now have a clearer understanding of why it happened. Just some food for thought.
