Red Wings Rumblings
Max Bultman has a fresh column today about trades & free agency with a focus on goaltending. Max calls it a “generally mediocre free agent class, in a league where top-flight goaltending is getting harder and harder to find.” He hit the nail right on the head with that sentiment.
Max named Cam Talbot and Laurent Brossoit as some top free-agent targets, then named a few trade possibilities: Jacob Markstrom, Linus Ullmark, and Juuse Saros. The issue is that, and Max mentioned this, Ville Husso and Alex Lyon are with the team through next season. No doubt — this position needs to be upgraded, but so does the defense. This just underscores how pivotal of an offseason this is for Steve Yzerman, after just narrowly missing the playoffs.
And speaking of goaltending, the Griffins have signed former Red Wings prospect Jan Bednar, this after Detroit’s rights to him expired last weekend:

Joe Pavelski is set to walk away from the game. Dude turns 40 in July and is coming off a really strong regular season but a lackluster postseason performance.
