Quick Hits: The Goalie of the Year Edition

Red Wings Rumblings

Ugly loss last night in Washington. I don’t really feel like diving into what went wrong, but I’ll leave it at this – You can’t score one goal and expect to win a game against a team like the Capitals. Hard to pull off! For any team! I will say that they played pretty well until the third period when everything collapsed The Wings are off until Saturday when they face Vegas again. There are 14 games left in Detroit’s season, and considering strength of schedule, it’s not looking like a playoff berth this year. At least they’re in the mix – considering it’s been a tumultuous season with a major overhaul in coaching. Find the positives where you can and enjoy it..i guess.

Trey Augustine is the Big Ten Goalie of the Year, which isn’t a surprise, but another nice accolade for the young prospect who appears to have very bright future ahead of him. Speaking of goalies, Rudy Guimond (6th rd pick in 2023) was named one of the CHL’s players of the week. He posted an impressive .960 SV% over the last couple of games. Even more impressive for Guimond, he has a perfect 15-0-0 record this season with the QMJHL’s Moncton Wildcats. Moncton is the number one team in the CHL. Pretty cool.

Short and sweet today, but I’ll leave you with this final item. The NHL says that the rate of missed calls is steady despite record-low PP opportunities. We’ve seen the Wings boned out of points because of missed calls. Just a little funny and only slightly angering!
