Red Wings Rumblings
Happy Friday my friends. We’ve got Red Wings hockey on tonight — Game Day Updates to come, but let’s put some focus down on the farm.
This was one of those classic AHL “kids” games where it starts at 11:30 AM and the entire crowd is… well, kids. Coming off a three-game skid, the Griffins pounced on the Wild in a 5-2 decision. GR scored two shorthanded goals. I really like what I’m seeing from the prospects in Grand Rapids so far this season — Amadeus Lombardi looks like he’s taking the next step, Cross Hanas is starting to build confidence, and Nate Danielson is starting to mesh nicely with pro hockey.
Perhaps the biggest story of this game was Ville Husso. Husso has had some terrible luck with injuries, but he bounced big in a big way stopping 37 of 39 shots against Iowa. Who knows when he’ll be back in the NHL, or if that will be with Detroit, but it’s good to see him get a big W.
Shortly after we published this article, the Red Wings announced that Husso has been recalled on emergency conditions.
Around the Sport
Some significant news broke yesterday that will impact a lot of young prospects across the globe. Starting next season CHL players (that’s OHL, WHL, QMJHL) who haven’t signed a pro contract will be eligible to join NCAA D1 hockey. The rule change’s effective date is August 1, 2025.
