Red Wings Rumblings
Most Detroit sports fans were busy celebrating a game one win by the Tigers in the MLB Wild Card yesterday, but the Wings earned themselves a preseason win in Pittsburgh last night in a 2-1 decision. Not exactly the way you want to win, of course — Detroit was outshot 44-19, but the bright side to that is Ville Husso made 43 saves. That’s a huge positive for this team. Nate Danielson and Amadeus Lombardi picked up both of Detroit’s goals.

Justin Holl was one of the few “regulars” that dressed for last night’s game, playing alongside Albert Johansson. Holl logged just shy of 22 minutes of ice time. The Hockey News has a nice write-up on Holl this morning that talks about his rocky time in Detroit and how he wants to earn more playing time.
Detroit’s next preseason game is Thursday night at LCA against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
NHL News
You may have heard by now, but the Boston Bruins are in quite a mess with their goaltending situation. Jeremy Swayman is still without a contract, and the back-and-forth between both camps has been… Interesting to say the least.
Here’s what Cam Neely said the other day:
“I don’t want to get into the weeds with what his ask is,” he said, “but I know that I have 64 million reasons why I’d be playing right now.”
Swayman’s agent sounded off after that comment with this:
“Normally, I do not release statements or discuss negotiations through the media,” Gross said in a statement on Instagram. “However, in this case, I feel I need to defend my client. At today’s press conference, $64 million was referenced. That was the first time that number was discussed in our negotiations. Prior to the press conference, no offer was made reaching that level.”
So yeah, kind of a mess. Not to mention, Bruins coach Jim Montgomery says Joonas Korpisalo is expected to start the Bruins’ season opener. Really glad the Wings are not in this type of situation. I’m sure a deal will get done eventually, but for now I am enjoying the Bruins being down bad.
In other Atlantic Division news — Patrik Laine will only miss two to three months with a knee sprain. Amazing outcome, considering the hit that took him out. Could have been much worse.
