In Red Wings Land

NBC’s Pierre McGuire: Lottery pick Alexis Lafreniere would ‘speed up’ Red Wings’ rebuild – The Detroit News

If we’re going to get today started off right, we might as well do it with some Pierre McGuire, right? I mean, the concept that picking the first overall guy is good is prety obvious, but McGuire covered a range of topics that are also kinda flowery and decently obvious.

“As for the last three lottery picks, Zadina is eventually going to be a very good scorer, Rasmussen is a very good two-way player and Seider is going to be a star player in the league. People who knew the draft last year knew that Yzerman and his staff made a heck of a pick. Take a look at some of the picks by (director of European scout) Hakan Andersson. The turnaround is going to happen sooner rather than later.”

Around the NHL

Canadiens’ Carey Price unresolved about NHL’s return-to-play plan – Sportsnet

“I have about an equal amount of optimism and pessimism [the 2020 season can be completed],” Price said. “It’s a very unusual situation; I want the opportunity to be able to play for a Stanley Cup, but I want to be able to continue living life normally. A lot of cases haven’t panned out, for a lot of people, very well. I have friends’ family members who have passed away from COVID-19, it’s nothing to balk at. It’s a very serious situation and I don’t think everybody has all the answers, so that’s why I feel that way.”

He’s not alone. Not even close.

It would be nice to know how not close to alone he is in this feeling.  I’ve seen stuff from a handful of guys like Anton Stralman and Artemi Panarin, but if there’s a lot of underlying worry out there, it’s not being communicated very well.

Amazon buys naming rights to Seattle’s NHL arena, calls it Climate Pledge Arena – CBS Sports

Jeff Bezos announced on Thursday that Amazon would be buying the naming rights to the arena that will house Seattle’s future NHL team. While the team itself has yet to be named, he revealed that the arena would be called Climate Pledge Arena.

Hey it’s a better idea than naming it “I’m not totally evil arena.”
