Red Wings Rumblings

Some reporting on Raymond and Berggren

Here we have a report from a report from The Fourth Period that states Lucas Raymond and the Red Wings are “not close” in contract negotiations and Jonatan Berggren is likely to be traded. There’s gonna be a lot of discourse on the matter, so I’ll just rifle off my hot-take theater in a couple of bullet points:

  • No shit Raymond and the Wings aren’t close. If they were, the deal would have been done already. It’s coming down to the wire, but I suspect it will be OK. I would imagine Seider’s deal is “not close” as well.
  • A trade for Berggren has been widely expected for the last year or so. Good player, tons of upside, but hasn’t checked enough boxes for Detroit yet. Still, I think they (Yzerman) is willing to give him another shot on a 1-yr deal, but a guaranteed roster spot is another question.

All that said, we’ve got some time before the regular season, but it’s understandable to have some worry about the situation with Raymond and Seider. I’m putting stock in Yzerman here — he got the Larkin deal done. He’ll get these done too.

In other news, Red Wings prospect Red Savage will be captain of the Michigan State University Spartans hockey team this season:

Keep an eye out for some Red Savage content here at WIIM. 🙂

The Toughest Divisions

Proteau says it’s the Atlantic and Central. No kidding, man. Pretty sure everyone thinks this! I do, however, think the Atlantic’s meat-grinder style of hockey will prepare the Red Wings for an inevitable league realignment, with all of this expansion stuff. Maybe by the time that happens, the team will be battle-tested and ready to contend year in and year out.
