Red Wings: Acquiring Eichel is Off the Table – The Hockey Writers

It begins by including the Red Wings’ first round picks in both this year and next year’s draft. Sabres GM Kevyn Adams would be wise to milk any potential Eichel deal for all that he’s worth, and a player of that caliber should yield a boatload of picks AND prospects (and/or roster players). Alright, so then add Seider, one of the top prospects in the game, to the deal, and probably Filip Zadina too. To finish it off, you’re probably looking at including Robby Fabbri to the deal to make the money work, as well as give Buffalo a legitimate roster player back. Just like that, you’ve got yourself a deal, or at least close to it.

The argument behind this not working is that it doesn’t benefit Detroit enough to do this, but I have no idea why Buffalo, who would be in dire need of another center would just take this smorgasbord of assets.

Canucks not planning coaching change, want to sign Green to extension – NHL.com

The future’s very bright for the Vancouver Canucks,” he said. “I don’t think anyone doesn’t believe that, not just in organization but in the city. When you look at a lot of the young pieces that we have that are on our team now and that are coming, it’s an exciting time to be a Canuck.

“And yes, maybe things haven’t gone quite perfectly this year, but again, we’re only halfway through the season and I like the way our team’s been playing as of late. I think Jim and I agree on that as well.”

I specifically wanted to use the NHL.com version of this story because everywhere that’s adding at least the SLIGHTEST bit of editorialization in the GM’s comments (which any responsible site should be doing) is rightfully pointing out that Benning’s conference was a mess.
