Whatever he’s nursing right now, missing a back-to-back against non-divisional opponents is probably the best case scenario scheduling-wise. Not all points are created equal, and if we’re going to miss our best player with 4 points on the line it’s better that those points don’t have the possibility of swinging directly against us in the standings.

Something had to give with the Edmonton situation. That team was not as bad as they were playing, despite the goaltending and defensive fiascos, and it looks like they’re taking some positive steps now. Across this 3-game streak they’ve won 5-0 (at WAS), 8-2 (vs ANA), and 5-4 in a shootout (vs VGK). They’ve put themselves in a steep hole to climb out of, especially if they want to eye a divisional playoff seed instead of a wildcard, but anything is possible in a Pacific division with only 3 teams above a .500 points percentage. Climbing is easy when there’s plenty of garbage to step on.
