Red Wings Rumblings

It’s a quiet start to the week, at least in terms of Red Wings hockey, but ICYMI, the ink on Joe Veleno’s new contract has dried, he’s got a two-year deal. We’re still waiting on deals for Jonatan Berggren, Mortiz Seider, and Lucas Raymond.

Czarnik heads overseas

Austin Czarnik, who played 63 games with the Wings and 81 games with the Griffins, has signed with SC Bern out of the Swiss league. Czarnik played a depth role for Detroit and never etched himself a full-time roster spot. He’s joining former Red Wing Patrik Nemeth with his new Swiss club.

Sprong has Sprung… to the West Coast

Daniel Sprong will be playing with the Vancouver Canucks after he signed a one-year deal worth $975k. That’s a fair price for Vancouver — they’ll get some cheap supplemental scoring to add to their bottom-six.

A new rule in the KHL

The KHL has announced a new rule for junior-league overtime that will start next season. Teams will not be allowed to bring the puck back to their half of the ice, and violations will be assessed a minor penalty.

I’ve seen a lot of momentum from cans calling for the NHL to adopt a similar rule. I wouldn’t hate it, honestly, there are a lot of teams (Detroit is guilty) that will spend time wandering from the neutral zone back into their own zone to let a play develop. What say you?
