Quick Hits: The Nylander New Number Edition

In Red Wings Land

Detroit Red Wings offseason: Here’s what experts are saying
What they’re saying: “Valtteri Filppula’s return to Detroit for two years is the kind of move for which Ken Holland would have been demolished, but for which Yzerman gets a “because he’s Steve Yzerman” pass.” — ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski

You’ll get no argument here with that quote.

No Red Wings got married yesterday, so there’s not too much out there for the Detroit section.

Toronto Maple Leafs F William Nylander changing number to 88 – TSN.ca
William Nylander will have a different look next season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs forward announced on social media Monday that he’s swapping numbers — trading in 29 for 88.

“Making the switch … what’s old is new again #88,” Nylander posted to his verified Twitter account along with a picture of himself wearing No. 88 when he played for Modo in the Swedish Hockey League.

The 23-year-old added he will cover the cost for fans to get their jerseys re-crested with his new digits at the Leafs’ official team store.

People are upset about this, because of course they are. No matter what, it’s cool that Nylander is paying for fans to get their jerseys updated.
