Quick Hits: The One for One* Edition

In Red Wings Land

By the Numbers Prospects: Seth Barton
If there is one player among the Detroit Red Wings blueline prospects that may have gone under the radar a bit but bears watching, it is Seth Barton.

Barton was the Wings’ third-round pick, 81st overall, in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. That pick came from Philadelphia in the trade that sent Petr Mrazek to the Flyers in 2017-18.

Also, I thought people would enjoy this old highlight that Detroit posted on their twitter page yesterday.

Around the NHL

*Update: there is a conditional third round pick, so it’s not really one-for-one.

Trade: Flames get Lucic; Oilers receive Neal – ProHockeyTalk
Call it a “change of scenery,” or probably most directly, trading problems. Either way, two rivals in the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers made a truly resounding trade on Friday, with the main takeaway being that Milan Lucic goes to the Flames, while James Neal is bound for Edmonton.

Yeah, wow.

Multiple reporters indicate that it’s close to a one-for-one deal, but there are some crucial details to hash out to fully evaluate this fascinating trade between two hostile local rivals.

As of Friday evening, the trade hasn’t been officially announced, but all reporting indicates that it’s happening. I personally wouldn’t want either player on Detroit, but if I had to pick, I’d wager on James Neal being worth more than Lucic going forward.

Official: Rangers Sign Jacob Trouba To Contract Extension – Blueshirt Banter
The salary arbitration hearing between Jacob Trouba and the New York Rangers scheduled for July 25 will no longer be necessary. Today, Trouba pledged his future to his new team by signing a seven-year deal worth an average annual value of $8,000,000. This is the first long-term contract of his career.
