Red Wings Rumblings
Good Monday morning, folks! Red Wings hockey officially starts this week! We talked about it a little yesterday, but the Wings made some significant roster decisions over the weekend, including defenseman Justin Holl on waivers and forward Marco Kasper to the Grand Rapids Griffins, among others. One thing I didn’t mention after yesterday’s announcement was Michael Brandsegg-Nygard headed back to Sweden to play with Axel Sandin-Pellikka on Skellefteå AIK in the SHL. Thought he had a real chance to stay in North America and play with the Griffins… But he’ll surely get plenty of playing time in Europe.
The roster now stands at 28 players — 15 forwards, 10 defenseman, and three goaltenders.
Austin Watson appears to have made the team over Marco Kasper (for now). My take on this is that I would highly prefer Kasper to be in the NHL, but I understand why the team wants a player like Watson. At the end of the day, it’s not something I am interested in being mad about. It’s a long season ahead.
Something to keep in mind… The Tigers are in the postseason, and if they survive as far as Thursday, that’s going to create some conflicts for opening night at LCA. First pitch for that game at Comerica Park would be at 6:08 PM ET, just before the Wings drop the puck against the Penguins at 7 PM ET. We’ll see how that shakes out, but if you’re headed downtown for the game Thursday, plan accordingly.
In other news, keep an eye out for our Bold Predictions for this season. That will be coming here in the next day or two!

Swayman Soap Opera Comes to a Close
All of that yapping for nothing, eh? After plenty of jawing back and forth, the Boston Bruins signed RFA goaltender Jeremy Swayman to an eight-year deal worth $66 million. Good for Swayman to get the bag, and good for the Bruins too, I guess.
The NHL is goofy. The regular season kicked off over the weekend with the Devils and Sabres playing a pair of games in Prague. New Jersey won both games, so HA HA to Buffalo.
