Niyo: Red Wings’ mission is moving Dennis Cholowski from surviving to thriving - The Detroit News
Cholowski has been pretty ok in a garbage-fire defense this season, but he’s got a bit of an unenviable position. His mistakes are more-hurtful than those of a guy like McIlrath or Biega because expectations are higher, and he’s getting outplayed by Hronek. Honestly I’m not as down on the kid as a lot of the criticisms I’ve seen. He very much looks like a very young defenseman in the process of putting it all together and I’m looking forward to seeing what that’s going to be like when it’s complete.

Inside Brendan Smith’s transition from defenseman to forward - ESPN
Everybody’s favorite puck-toucher gets a feature from ESPN on reinventing himself after being put on waivers on his birthday. I know he’s forever going to take a lot of (deserved) shit for the way he played for the Wings, but the guy loves hockey and it’s cool to see him put in the work to keep his career going.
NHL Power Rankings: 1-31 poll, plus unsung heroes on every team - ESPN
A double-dose of ESPN hockey content. Weird! Also weird, the Wings have three teams behind them in the power rankings.
Previous ranking: 27
We’re not saying Robby Fabbri saved the Red Wings’ season but since his arrival, Detroit has looked like a better team, going 3-1-2. Fabbri adds some talent to the second line while averaging more than a point per game as a Red Wing.
