Quick Hits: The Personal Changes Edition

In Red Wings Land

Detroit Red Wings loan prized prospect Moritz Seider to Germany. Here’s why – Freep

The pandemic prompted defenseman Kasper Kotkansalo, a third-round pick from 2017, to decide not to return to Boston University this fall, and instead stay and play in his native Finland.

“A bitter sweet feeling of saying goodbye to BU,” Kotkansalo wrote over the weekend on his Instagram account. “Due to the COVID situation I’ve decided to stay in Finland for the upcoming season.”

I mean, the answer to the title question is “duh”, but I found the Kotkansalo part (which was more than half the article) interesting.

Around the NHL

The NHL playoffs viewing diary – A timeline of the restart tournament’s opening weekend – ESPN

9:02 p.m. ET: Avalanche 2, Blues 1. Buzzer-beater! Best non-overtime finish of the weekend as Nazem Kadri scores a power-play goal with 0.1 seconds left to give the Avs the win over St. Louis. There was a lengthy review of the goal. When it’s announced it was a good goal, there is no reaction that we’ve come to expect, because there is no crowd. The ref was about a second away from saying “please clap.”

Hey remember two days ago? would you like to relive it all?

Stars’ Tyler Seguin, Jason Dickinson kneel during national anthems in NHL’s return to play

The pair took a knee alongside Vegas players Ryan Reaves and Robin Lehner. – The Dallas Morning News

I’m not used to clipping the subheading as well, but it was valuable to include that it wasn’t JUST the Stars player, as reported by the Dallas publication.

[Seguin] attended a Black Lives Matter protest June 4 in the wake of George Floyd’s death the previous week. He posted a statement on social media about learning to become more empathetic and hoping that society “will come out enlightened, fight for change, and will finally hear the historically stifled voices of all underrepresented groups of people.”

I though the maturation of Tyler Seguin was going well before 2020 started, but now I really appreciate the steps he’s taken as he’s aged.
