Everybody knows Michael Rasmussen is headed back to Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League, but Blashill provides some insights into where Rasmussen may fit into the future of the Wings, going so far as to suggest Rasmussen may be ready for the big club in a year if this season in juniors goes well.

A handful of the freshly minted Golden Knights are on contracts that expire at the end of this season, notably James Neal. GM George McPhee is 100% okay with this, and I kind of admire the move as a GM. It’s a clever move; the Golden Knights can’t afford to be a bad team for five or six years, because of the market they are in. These guys playing for new contracts will be skating hard this year, which could boost Vegas in the standings and help promote the new fanbase.
