Augustine Ready to Lead Team USA
Augustine is set to be the lead netminder for Team USA at the WJC for his very last time. The 19-year-old is putting up yet another massive season with number-one ranked Michigan State University — 11-2-1, .930 SV%, 1.98 GAA and two shutouts this season in 14 starts. The 2025 WJC will take place December 26 through January 5.
Detroit’s power play has been a bright spot this season, but lately the offense on special teams has dried up. Derek Lalonde called it “stale,” and has done a little shuffling in hopes to bring that spark back. Of note, Marco Kasper is getting bumped into the first unit. Will this fix it? Who knows, but Kasper deserves the chance given the way he has shown up for this team this season.
Sounds like Detroit’s goaltending is finally getting healthy. Alex Lyon should be back soon, but Lalonde isn’t ready to make any decisions before all three of Cam Talbot, Alex Lyon, and Ville Husso are healthy.
NHL News
The New York Rangers and its fans are in a state of high school theater drama right now. Forward Kaapo Kakko is not happy with how things are going for him after being a healthy scratch earlier this week. ‘“I have not been the worst guy,” he said. “But that was me out of the lineup”’ pretty much says it all. This has started up the trade rumors, and while I don’t think the Rangers are dumb enough to trade him, it’s an interesting prospect for Detroit. Kakko is the type of player worth making a bet on, especially if you’re getting him for pennies on the dollar.
Cam Fowler was traded to the St. Louis Blues. Nothing really to add here, other than this will put the rumors of him being shipped off to Detroit to bed… At least for now.
It’s good to see Patrik Laine back to action and performing well. He helped the Canadiens defeat the Sabres last night by picking up three PP goals. That makes 11 straight losses for Buffalo. Hard to imagine anyone keeps their job if this goes on longer.. I don’t care how many “meetings” Pegula has with the team.
