Red Wings Rumblings
MLive’s Ansar Khan has an article out today with a focus on newcomer to Detroit’s blue line, Erik Gustafsson. After losing defensemen like Shayne Gostisbehere and Jake Walman, it’s really difficult for me to see how this defense will take a step forward in terms of offensive output, but I like Gustafsson just fine. The idea is that you’re essentially swapping out Walman-Ghost for Gus-Edvinsson. Perhaps not as offensively sexy, but while I have my concerns, the Wings could do much worse than that.
“Gustafsson, who grew up in Sweden a Lidstrom fan, has only six career power-play goals and none since 2019-20, but has 32 assists on the man-advantage over the past four years.
‘I have been playing power play ever since I came over (to the NHL),” Gustafsson said. “It’s something I like to do and something my game is. I like to run it and try to give the puck to the forwards to shoot, create lanes. I feel very confident playing on the power play. Hopefully, I can get an opportunity.’”
NHL dot com’s Dave Hogg looks at key additions and departures for the Red Wings this offseason. Here is his projected lineup:
DeBrincat-Larkin-Raymond
Tarasenko-Compher-Kane
Rasmussen-Copp-Fischer
Motte-Veleno-Berggren
Chiarot-Seider
Edvinsson-Petry
Maatta-Gustafsson
Talbot
Lyon
I guess that’s a roster fit enough for a wild card spot? I’ll predict right now that this season is going to come down to goaltending. HA!

It’s been quite the ride for this guy since he won the cup with Washington. Hoping he can find peace and fulfillment in his home country.
