Red Wings Rumblings
Welcome to the real offseason… Where everything is quiet and we all get bored. Obviously not much Red Wings news to talk about, but this NHL dot com feature on 2024 first-round pick Michael Brandsegg-Nygard is worth the read, which included some stuff about MBN’s relationship with Axel Sandin-Pellikka, and some quotes from GMSY:
“’I think he plays a pretty responsible game for a young guy,” Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman said. “When we all played junior, we worried about scoring. We didn’t check. He’s just got a really well-rounded game to him.
I just think he’s a guy who could play in all situations. He can play either wing, a lot of different spots on the power play.’”
Speaking of MBN, here’s some perspective from former Red Wing Anders Myrvold on the newest top prospect:
Meantime, how about a fun little exercise. What would Detroit’s perfect top six forwards look like for you next season? Obviously there’s a lot of possibility, but here’s something I had in mind…
Kane-Larkin-Raymond
Tarasenko-Compher-DeBrincat
Pretty solid top six right there, and one could make an argument that perhaps Nate Danielson would get a look at second-line center in camp, somehow. That’s pretty much my main concern when it comes to the top six. That second-line center position is going to be pivotal to this team’s success. We’ll have plenty of time to talk about that over the next month or so.
NHL News
Here’s a really good feature on Seattle Kraken assistant coach Jessica Campbell, who is the first woman ever to hold a job on the bench of an NHL team as assistant or associate coach. Worth your time, even if you’re not a Kraken fan. Hopefully Campbell’s incredible story and hard work can inspire a new generation and bring some much-needed perspective and nuance to the boys club that is NHL coaching.
