Red Wings Rumblings
Pretty dark weekend for Detroit pro sports overall. After Saturday night between both the Red Wings and Lions, I was a little “sports’d out” so I hardly had much attention on the game against the Stars Sunday night. That game obviously turned out to be a big dud by Detroit — but I’m giving them a little leniency because it is very difficult to go from Tampa to Dallas on a back-to-back. I will say that the defense needs to be better from what I saw. Too loosey-goosey lately. Perhaps the Wings would have won in Dallas if they hadn’t played such a solid goaltender.
So, a pretty rough weekend overall — embarrassed in Tampa, then a bad first period sunk them in Dallas. The Wings will play in Philadelphia Tuesday night before returning home for a few games (Montreal, Tampa, Los Angeles).
Meanwhile, the Grand Rapids Griffins closed out a long homestand with a win over Cleveland Saturday night. Sebastian Cossa earned the win in a 4-2 decision, and Elmer Soderblom picked up a goal to bring his point total in the last five games to six. Some highlights for your viewing pleasure:
Down a little further in the system, the Toledo Walleye have a matinee game with Cincinnati today at 1:30 PM ET.
NHL News
Connor McDavid is going to have a conversation with the NHL DoPS after he cross-checked Connor Garland a little too high and got himself ejected from a game over the weekend.
Business is apparently pretty good for the NHL and its employees. Frank Seravalli reported over the weekend that the NHL terminated Escrow withholding, meaning players will make more money. It’s a good sign for upcoming CBA negotiations and the potential for a higher salary cap.
