Red Wings Rumblings
Beloved Detroit sports TV personality John Keating announced that after this Red Wings season, he will retire on his own terms. It’s a bummer for fans — Keating has been a mainstay in this market for years (and many RSN brands). I take some comfort in the fact that he’s doing this on his own terms and not due to a corporate buyout. Best of luck in retirement, John!
So long, Ville. We hardly knew ye. This move means Detroit is finally healthy at goaltender (Cam Talbot, Alex Lyon). Husso was a warrior for the Wings during his stint. He took a big step forward for himself after getting bit by the injury bug so many times the last couple of years.
Meanwhile, we still don’t really know how serious Simon Edvinsson’s injury is. He left the game against Philadelphia and did not return. According to the beat writers, he did not participate in today’s morning skate.
UPDATE 11:27 AM ET: The Wings announced that Edvinsson will be unavailable this weekend.
The NHL’s holiday roster freeze is in effect now, so don’t expect anything exciting out of the hockey world until after Christmas.
