Red Wings Rumblings
By now you may have heard the rumors if you scour social media, but Frank Seravalli reported on Friday that the Red Wings are interested in forward Martin Necas. Necas, 25, is a former first-round pick (12th overall in 2017). He’s racked up 243 points (97-146–243) in 362 career NHL games.
No doubt an intriguing idea, but it comes down to asking price from Carolina. Then, there’s contract status. Necas is currently a pending RFA and in need of an extension. Among the other teams interested are Columbus, Calgary, Vancouver, Boston, Chicago, and Nashville.
Michael DeRosa at The Hockey News threw out David Perron as a potential target for the Boston Bruins. Nothing but speculation of course, but Perron is a pending UFA. We’ve been led to believe the Red Wings would like to bring Perron back as a crafty locker room veteran.
McDavid breaks record, Oilers live to fight another day
The Oilers came out swinging Saturday night. Facing elimination, they blasted the Panthers 8-1. Connor McDavid registered a goal and three assists — those three assists were enough to shatter Wayne Gretzy’s single postseason record of 31 assists. Still a long shot for the Oilers to win this, but that’s a pretty incredible milestone to achieve for McDavid. That was one of those records that many thought wouldn’t be eclipsed until McDavid rolled around.
Game five is set for tomorrow night in Sunrise.
