Red Wings Rumblings

Pretty slow news cycle in Red Wings land to start the week. Contracts for Seider and Raymond soon?

DDK Digs In on Disability

Bit of old news, but putting it here just for record — Former Red Wing Danny DeKeyser is suing HHC Life Insurance Company for $680k over disability payments:

“The purpose of this case is to compel Defendant HCC Life Insurance Company to provide certain long-term disability benefits in the amounts and at the coverage levels promised, as well as for an accounting, and an award of attorney fees and costs incurred as a consequence of Defendant’s failure to do so,” according to the lawsuit.

More Fits after Offseason

You may not feel like the roster is improved after this offseason, but head coach Derek Lalonde sees more fits on his team, which ultimately should make them better. The Hockey News got into that topic recently:

The way [Lalonde] sees it, his top six — players primarily tasked with putting pucks in the net — is made up of his scorers. His bottom six, tasked with more defensive responsibility, is made up of checkers. He has the right players to play the right roles, instead of a lot of players who play a certain scoring style.

The moves Detroit made this offseason intentionally furnished the roster’s roles. The Red Wings added Vladimir Tarasenko to replace top six departure David Perron, and he’ll play alongside a mix of Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, Patrick Kane, J.T. Compher and Alex DeBrincat. That’s a group that could and should carry a lot of Detroit’s offensive needs.

Ceci Traded to San Jose

Edmonton has dumped Cody Ceci’s contract to San Jose. It cost the Oilers a third-round pick in 2025, but they received defenseman Ty Emberson in the deal. This comes after St. Louis put in offer sheets for Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg.

The Oilers also acquired forward Vasily Podkolzin from the Canucks in exchange for a 2024 fourth-round pick.
