Red Wings Rumblings

The Detroit Red Wings are 8-2-0 after last night’s win in Sunrise. I said it on social media, I’ll say it again here: This was a low-key BIG win for the Wings. They took down a tough divisional opponent that’s ahead of them in the standings and did not crack late in the game when they had a multi-goal lead. There was a certain part of me that went “oh here we go” when the Wings went up by two against the Panthers last night. It seemed almost certain that the Cats would roar back and at least push the game to OT. Not this time.

Game Notes: Red Hot Power Play Leads Red Wings over Panthers

Leading the way for Detroit was captain Dylan Larkin with a pair of goals and an assist. The Wings went three-for-four on the power play and did not allow the Panthers to score a PP goal on their three attempts. Florida had a wide margin in shots on goal, but Cam Talbot looked like what he has been earlier on in the season. Assuming they can get Alex Lyon back in the mix soon, things are looking up for this team as they continue a tough road trip. Todd McLellan is doing voodoo magic with this team and their confidence. It’s a sight to behold for the hottest team in the NHL right now. YEEEHAW!

Stadium Series Kits Revealed

The NHL unveiled the jerseys for the upcoming Stadium Series match between the Red Wings and Blue Jackets. It appears the overwhelming consensus is that the NHL (and Fanatics, too, I guess) did a bang-up job putting these kits together.

I am personally not a huge fan of the helmet stripe, but I do think the wings on the helmet are a bit fun. I wish they would have used the Winged Wheel for the chest, but going with “Detroit” is a safe approach. There’s a little treat for all Red Wings fans on these jerseys in the form of our beloved Al the Octopus. I’m just glad the designers decided to leave out the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry from the designs. That would have been awfully corny.

I’ve read that the only way to get these jerseys right now are at the official team store at LCA, which is unfortunate given that the Wings are on a road trip for the next handful of games. It’s not clear when the jerseys will be available for purchase online.

That’s all for now, gang. Happy Friday. Enjoy the weekend and LGRW! (Lions, too!)
