Red Wings Rumblings
Maybe this isn’t surprising, but turns out, Patrick Kane played a big role in getting Vladimir Tarasenko signed to a two-year deal with the Red Wings. Both players gave some time to the media recently and gave some insight. Here’s what Tom Gulitti from NHL dot com wrote just a couple of days ago:
“Kane signed a one-year contract to remain with the Red Wings on June 30 after playing for them last season, so he and Grahovec were able to tell the Tarasenkos about living in the Detroit suburbs as well as what it’s like to play for the Red Wings.
It worked, with Tarasenko signing a two-year, $9.5 million contract ($4.75 million average annual value) with Detroit on July 3.”
Tarasenko also spoke a little bit about his love for the Red Wings as a kid, and of course, that involved the legendary Russian Five.
Meanwhile, after all those weeks of thinking he was gone, Patrick Kane wasn’t going anywhere after all:
‘”For me, my heart was set on coming to Detroit and being back in Detroit,” [Kane] said. “I thought it was a good fit last year. Love the team. We were really comfortable living there.”‘
Not sure how much of that I believe, but it doesn’t really matter, does it?
Some good quotes here from Danny Cleary about Detroit’s most-coveted prospects, and some of the newcomers. Worth a read if you haven’t already.
NHL News
Capfriendly is officially gone. Thanks for the memories, friends. [sobs]
The NHL and New Era have agreed on a multiyear deal that gives the hat-maker the rights to produce and distribute headwear and apparel for the league. A big hell yeah from me — that means the NHL will offer at least SOME merchandise that I am interested in buying, because there ain’t no way in hell I’m giving my hard-earned money to Fanatics.
Jacob Trouba was recently featured on NHL PR’s “Captain’s Corner” social media post. Nothing really newsworthy here, but maybe? Does this mean the trade speculation can finally be put to bed and all of the Rangers fans can stop whining about his situation? Probably not. Here’s hoping.
