Red Wings Rumblings
What a mess this team is in, huh? The Red Wings dropped both games in a back-to-back with the Montreal Canadiens over the weekend, and find themselves closer to the bottom of the Atlantic Division. With just one game left before Christmas break (tonight against St. Louis), time is running out (or, you could argue it already has run out) for this team to get its shit together. I have no reason to believe they will get it together — this team has failed to maintain any momentum it manages to gather. It’s on coaching, management, players, staff — pretty much everyone at this point.
Meanwhile in San Jose, Jake Walman has impressed with his new team. The former Red Wing set a franchise record for fastest defenseman to reach 20 assists (31 games), previously held by Erik Karlsson (34 games). Nothing to see here, folks!
There were some interesting quotes from Red Wings players in HSJ’s latest column. Joe Veleno said that they need to figure out what kind of team they want to be this season, however I would argue it appears they have already figured that out. Moritz Seider said they need to “avoid the standings” and “concentrate on the daily work,” which I agree with, but I’m beginning to question what that “daily work” really is. That is obviously a coaching gaffe, because at times it really seems like this team doesn’t practice. I know that they do, but it doesn’t seem like it.
As I said, one more game until the Wings break for the holiday. They will return to action on Friday against Toronto.
