Since yesterday was a holiday for most, we skipped Quick Hits and are doing it today. Hope you all had a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day!
Red Wings Rumblings
[Sad Trombone]
That’s it for Red Wings hockey this season. The Grand Rapids Griffins were eliminated from the Calder Cup Playoffs on Sunday at the hands of the Milwaukee Admirals. Pretty disappointing game by any standards — as the Griffins didn’t manage to score a goal in Sunday’s game.
Team Sweden gets Bronze at Worlds
Third place for Lucas Raymond and Team Sweden. Raymond had his moments in the tournament and showed that he can be a weapon for the Wings for years to come. Next step for Raymond and the Red Wings will be getting a contract extension done in the offseason. He should be getting paid. Mo Seider, too.
Martin Necas’ dad has kicked the offseason rumors into high gear, stating that his son wants a trade so he can have an opportunity to play in a first-line role. First concern there is what his contract would look like, which for me comes before what it costs to pry him from Carolina. Of course, I would love to add a player like Necas, but I’m not sure how plausible it would be. Detroit still needs to get Jonatan Berggren’s future settled (obviously would take Necas over him). Related to this — we should all just assume that Patrick Kane’s days in Detroit are over… right?
