Red Wings Rumblings
Happy Monday! The Red Wings are off until Wednesday after Dylan Larkin and Cam Talbot helped propel the team to a win over Buffalo Saturday night. I was out of town, so I didn’t get to watch any of the game. Just happy they got away with a victory. Add in a Lions victory in Green Bay and a win from the Pistons.. I think we have the ultimate Victory Monday to celebrate! 😉
I personally have not been all too impressed with Jonatan Berggren so far this season. In all fairness, it’s still early, but he has fallen short of my expectations. He was highly regarded out of the draft and played out of his mind in the AHL… And now, just sorta underwhelming for Detroit — though he is generating chances. I’m willing to give him more time, but Jacob Punturi over at Sports Illustrated’s Breakaway thinks JB48 is a great trade candidate for the Colorado Avalanche. Now, usually I don’t give these articles much attention because they are often way too speculative and have little-to-no sense of reality to them. But for fun-sies, it’s worth exploring. Not gonna get much for Berggren I would expect, but he’s affordable in terms of cap. I’d be asking a 3rd or 4th round pick for him.
Meanwhile, down on the farm… The Grand Rapids Griffins offense had a rough two-game weekend. GR lost both to Rockford and Cleveland (4-1 and 3-1, respectively) after a white-hot start to the regular season. The Griffins are off until Thursday when they hit the road for a two-game trip starting in Iowa and wrapping up in Rockford Friday night. Just a heads up to those who like to tune into Griffins games — Thursday’s start against Iowa is 11:30 AM.
Now overseas, some unfortunate news for prospect Jesse Kiiskenen — he will be sidelined about four weeks with an injury. Sucks a lot because he was playing really good hockey to start the season. The Red Wings acquired Kiiskenen from Nashville in the Andrew Gibson trade. The fortunate news is that Kiiskenen is still just 19 years old. Plenty of runway left for him despite the injury.
