Red Wings Rumblings
Would you look at that? The Detroit Red Wings have won three games in a row, and are now 3-1-0 under Todd McLellan.
As I watched last night’s game in Columbus, I couldn’t help but to feel like the Red Wings were going to let that game get away from them. Even with your stars showing up (multi-point games for Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Kane and Dylan Larkin), the Blue Jackets stayed with the Wings in a way that had me prepared for heartbreak. Late in the third period, Columbus scores to make it 4-4 and Detroit challenges for goaltender interference — it was a pretty weak challenge in all honesty. Not sure what Detroit’s eyes above the ice saw, but it was a clear goal in my eyes. A successful kill led to a great sequence between Ben Chiarot and Tyler Motte who chipped the puck toward center ice and caught Jonatan Berggren speeding toward CBJ’s net like a freight train. The whole play was pure cinema:
What a few games for this team. I know it’s been real tough to watch this season given just how bad this team was performing just a couple of weeks ago.. But look at them now. Not saying this team has “figured it out” but they certainly look like they’re “figuring it out” with a new leader behind the bench. Still a lot of season left and it could go any way — at least we finally have something entertaining to watch. The Detroit Red Wings we have right now and the Detroit Red Wings we had of a couple weeks ago are like night and day. That is an undisputable fact.
Looking outside of Detroit — a big 1-0 shootout win for the Grand Rapids Griffins last night. Ville Husso earned the first star for stopping all 31 shots he faced and denying all three shootout attempts he saw. Husso had a huge save in the second period but saved the game in OT when he shutdown a two-on-none by Cleveland:
At the World Juniors yesterday — Trey Augustine watched Team USA beat Switzerland 7-2. No points for 2024 second-rounder Max Plante in this game. Team Sweden picked up an OT win over Latvia (that team is just a great story this year), and Axel Sandin-Pellikka notched an assist to bring his point total to nine through five GP at WJC. ASP and Dalibor Dvorsky are currently tied at first for most points scored in the tournament. Sweden outshot Latvia 50-13. I would personally draft all of the Latvian goalies.

L’Heureux Suspended for Slewfoot
Really ugly play here that will cost Zachary L’Heureux nearly $13,500 and a few games without his jersey on.
Alex Ovechkin scored again last night and is easily within Wayne Gretzky’s record. It’s not a matter of if, but when at this point. Can he make it happen this season? If anyone can, it’s number 8.
