Red Wings Rumblings

Who doesn’t enjoy a little love between hometown teams? The Red Wings attended Lions open practice on Sunday, including Dylan Larkin, Andrew Copp, Jeff Petry, Alex DeBrincat, and Ben Chiarot. The band of Wings players gifted Dan Campbell, Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs, Alex Anzalone, Alim McNeill, and Jack Fox some custom jerseys:

Burning Questions from NHL dot Com

Three big questions from NHL dot com about how the Wings can improve this season. A couple of them are obvious, while the other is maybe a throwaway question (??)

  1. Who will emerge in goal?
Quick answer: whoever plays best and can stay healthy.
  2. Can the Red Wings improve defensively?
Have I heard this question during the offseason before, or am I just imagining that?
  3. Can Kane regain even more of his form?
Dude had 47 points coming off a major hip procedure. Now, at 35 years old, they ask if he can be better. Maybe? I feel like 50 points is about what we need from a guy like Kane… BUT, if he can stay in the lineup then I suppose the sky’s the limit.

Gotta Work for it

Is Simon Edvinsson ready for fulltime NHL work? No doubt about it, but as Steve Yzerman has said, he simply won’t be handed the job: “He has the ability to do it, and it’s up to him to do it,” GMSY said. I agree with Yzerman’s approach, but like, you know, what better options do you have?

Top-5 UFA Wingers Available

The Daily Faceoff has five wingers, who could still be serviceable to any NHL lineup, that are awaiting contracts:

  1. James van Riemsdyk
  2. Tyler Johnson
  3. Kevin Labanc
  4. Mike Hoffman
  5. Max Pacioretty

Kinda seems like the Wings are done making any more UFA additions, but do any of these names jump out at you? Maybe potential PTO contracts in camp?
