Red Wings Rumblings

Yzerman says Red Wings’ rookie trio ‘exceeded our expectations’ this fall

Here’s a nice piece from the Red Wings staff featuring Yzerman’s perspective of his homegrown talent finally making paydirt. We’re just two games into the 2025-26 NHL Regular Season, but I haven’t seen anything from Axel Sandin-Pellikka, Emmitt Finnie, or Michael Brandsegg-Nygard that I can complain about. It’s also too early to tell what the ceiling is for these three rookies. I’ve got a good feeling about it, though.

Excellent opening weekend for the Grand Rapids Griffins

I have high hopes for this Griffins team. The strength of Detroit’s farm system was on full display over the weekend, deep in the heart of Texas. Carter Mazur looks like he hasn’t lost a step since an unfortunate injury in his NHL debut. The Jackson, Michigan native single-handedly won the game for his team on Friday, posting a hat-trick in a 4-3 final.

The Griffins would follow up Friday’s win with another on Saturday. Amadeus Lombardi picked up a pair of assists and rookie goaltender Michal Postava earned his first-career AHL game. Not bad!

Meanwhile overseas…

Let’s not forget about Dmitry Buchelnikov. We believe that he will be in Detroit some time soon. His scoring ability is already on display in the KHL:

And over in Finland, Jesse Kiiskinen is off to a hot start in Liiga. Here are the highlights from his hat-trick performance over the weekend.
