Quick Hits: Vanek Setting an Example for the Kids and Iginla Wants to Chase the Cup Again

Thomas Vanek sets smart example for younger Detroit Red Wings | Detroit Free Press

Thomas Vanek is experiencing a little bit of a goal drought, but, he is taking this time to set an example for his worse-off linemates Nyquist and Sheahan.

This rhetoric applies to all of the Red Wings as of late, as they have scored 3 goals in their last 4 games. Tatar, Nyquist and Sheahan have been especially struggling to score. This is quite disappointing as the Red Wings likely expected to lean more on this trio to replace the aging Wings.

“I’m not going through a great goal-scoring stretch, either, right now, but I’m getting chances, which is good,” Vanek said. “That’s what I told him – getting chances is good. Not scoring on them is frustrating, but it’s better getting chances than no chances. For him, it’s just about getting a bounce and getting one and then hopefully he can keep going.”

Let’s hope that Vanek sparks the rest of the team!

Jarome Iginla may waive no-trade clause to take run at Stanley Cup | Sportsnet

Jarome Iginla’s 1,500th game was a forgettable one. In his third season with the Avalanche, he is no closer to winning a Stanley Cup, something which has eluded him throughout his 20 year career.

As he is getting closer to the end of his career, rumour has it that he would like to take one last kick at the bucket and waive his no trade clause to be traded to a better team.

Iggy has gambled before and lost out but since the Avalanche aren’t going to be contenders any time soon, it makes sense that he wants to try one more time.
