RECAP: Red Wings 1 Senators 3

After a humiliating loss to Buffalo, Detroit looked to bounce back and pickup two points against the Ottawa Senators. Before you read any further, if you did not watch this game, I am envious of you. Simply put, Detroit played an absolute chickenshit game. Ottawa had absolutely no problem suppressing shots in the neutral zone, and whenever Detroit started to pickup steam, the Sens were right there to shove them back onto their heels.

First Period: Haha, fuck that. Shots ended at 16-2 and it was probably the worst 20 minutes of hockey I have seen this team play in a decade. Jimmy Howard was spectacular and I am pretty sure he spent the intermission moon-walking in the bathroom by himself.

Second Period: We came out playing a bit better. Generated 16 shots, and started to look “normal” again. However, despite having some really nice scoring chances, Riley Sheahan just couldn’t bury the puck. Craig Anderson had himself some huge saves. The first goal came from Erik Karlsson on the power-play on a rocket from the blue-line. Just one of those shots that you can’t see as a goalie, so I don’t blame Jimmy for this one. It beat him just above the blocker. He was in position, just off by a fraction of a second. The most jarring stat is that Detroit through the second period has only had ONE shot on the PP despite having a couple of chances. There lies a big issue with the PP, in my opinion. Not enough shots, and if they’re shooting, they’re missing the net.

Third Period: Red Wings continue to play better, Henrik Zetterberg gets the equalizer on a feed from Danny DeKeyser and Johan Franzen. They seemed to have the game back in control, equalling and overcoming the shot deficit.. But a goal by Patrick Wiercioch broke the tie which lead to the impending loss that Detroit deserved for the way they came out tonight.

That’s that. Detroit should not have won this game, and they got what they deserved. Jimmy Howard played his ass off, and of course, the team in front of him failed to show up. If this team wants to get this going, players like Darren Helm, Tomas Jurco, Jonathan Ericsson, well hell, any player not named Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg need to figure it out. With that being said, after tonight, Detroit is 5 for 46 on the PP for the season, and let TWO (2) breakaway chances go while they had the man advantage. I hate to throw a negativity shroud on you all, but this is really really bad. I hope to hell that they figure this out, because the schedule isn’t going to tilt in their favor.

Good night folks, and as always.. LGRW.
