Finally.. After waiting what seemed to be a fortnight to watch a hockey game, here we are. Detroit coming off a tough loss to Vancouver, the need for points is evident. These next two games are a great opportunity to put them in the piggy bank for fun later on this season…
1st Period:
Detroit started with a little jump in their step, taking possession of the puck and throttling it. They had a chance on the PP, but could not convert. Detroit later found themselves in a 5 on 3 situation, and killed off the first part, but during the final minute of 5 on 4, Jordan Eberle went blocker side on Jimmy Howard and put Edmonton up 1-0. After 20, the score stays 1-0. The Oilers are a very bad team, and Detroit just doesn’t seem to care about that. Somewhat playing down to inferior team, as per usual. Shots in favor of Detroit, 12-8.
2nd Period
Ugh. The team looked out of sync, and off their game. Two solid chances on the PP, and nothing to show for it. For a second, it looked like they were ready to just accept that they’re not going to play well against the Oilers. Just because it’s that kind of a game, at 10:44 of the period, who other than Kyle Quincey to bury the puck on a feed from Justin Abdelkader. Yeah, I don’t know either. All I know is that Kyle is one hell of a name. After that goal, Detroit started to pour it on Edmonton. Tomas Tatar had himself some fantastic chances to score, but the puck just didn’t want to go in it’s home. At 18:29, Detroit finally capitalizes on the PP on a screen goal from Justin Abdelkader, to make it 2-1. That’s Abby’s 10th goal of the season, which ties his career-high. Shots still in favor of Detroit after 40 minutes, 26-15.
3rd Period:
The period trucked along with Detroit maintaining a lot of dominance of Edmonton. With about 5 minutes left in the game, the ice started to tilt back in favor of the Oilers, and of course, Jordan Eberle buries another to tie the game. Instantly, it felt like I had actually drank a bunch of oil. At 17:31, Benoit Pouliot thought it would be a swell idea to spear Jonathan Ericsson in his twig & berries. That gave Detroit a 4 minute powerplay, in which they converted. Oh baby, did they ever. At 19:26, Pavel Datsyuk feeds the puck to the front of the net, and one of the Oilers just says “ah fuck it, I’ll knock it in.” But the Wings weren’t done. Empty-net goal came to none other than the pride of Michigan, number 41, Luke Glendening. You know, my boy. Wings win 4-2! WOO
Oh also.. You should look at this, because it happened:

Viktor Fasth played himself a fantastic game, provided big saves and a chance for his team to win.. But at the end of the night, Detroit showed up when it mattered most. Realistically if it wasn’t for Pouliot’s spearing call, Detroit would have gone to OT. This was a good win against a very bad team. Shots end up in favor of Detroit, 43-21, and if I have to hear Fox Sports Detroit say “right hand shot” or anything on the matter, I am going to eat my hat. Time for Calgary, folks. Jiri Hudler, here we come!
