Canucks Blog: Nucks Misconduct

I wrote the Morning Skate last week vs. Vancouver and here’s how I started it,

“After getting off to a great start to the season, the Red Wings were brought back down to reality a bit after their 5-2 loss at home to the Maple Leafs Saturday. However, there is still plenty to be excited about with this team five games in as they hit the West Coast for the first time this year.”

So we all agree to just ignore the last week and be happy again? In all seriousness, things have gotten ugly in Detroit, kind of like how everyone thought it might go. They’ve lost 4-straight and have been outscored 17-5 during that stretch. After going 0-3 on the West Coast trip, the Red Wings finally return home in hopes that LCA can spark something in this team before it really gets out of hand. Cholowski and Erne both appear to be out for tomorrow, despite Erne having played in Edmonton, but not Calgary. Other than that, things appear to be the same. I pray Blashill keeps Bert on the top line, because at least we had one part of the team doing things right and, well, this team needs some offense ASAP.

As for Vancouver, they have won 5 of their last 6 after starting the year 0-2. After losing Jacob Markstrom for the week due to personal reasons, Thatcher Demko started 3-straight and was outstanding going 2-1 with a 1.64 GAA and .943%. Not only that, but Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser have been on fire since in the Detroit game and have combined for 10 points their last four. The Canucks still get a lot of offense from their defense as their Top 4 have combined for 17 points in their eight games thus far. These two teams are going in complete opposite directions after their respective starts to the season, but let’s hope things change tonight at LCA.
