Red Wings claim defenseman Christian Djoos off waivers

More depth on the backend is coming for the Red Wings after claiming defenseman Christian Djoos off waivers from the Anaheim Ducks:

Christian Djoos is the son of Pär Djoos, who was drafted by the Red Wings back in the 90’s.

The 26-year-old Swede has suited up for 119 games in the NHL, between the Washington Capitals and Anaheim Ducks. Not an offensive addition to the blue line by any means, but Djoos should bring some valuable depth to a defense that struggled mightily last season. Another upside to the move is that Djoos has some experience in the playoffs, which could make him a sweetener in any potential trade Steve Yzerman is looking for.

Not only does Djoos bring some depth, he brings value, he’s due $1 million this season. He’s a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
