Red Wings D Jake Walman injured, won’t go to Worlds

Just days after Jake Walman was named to Team Canada’s World Championship roster, the Red Wings blue-liner has been sidelined with an injury.

It’s unfortunate for Walman, who is coming off another solid season in Detroit. He had been battling an “upper-body injury” going into the final days of the regular season. One would imagine that this could be something with his shoulder. Yeah it’s a bummer, but it’s probably a good thing that he cashes in on some much-needed offseason rest.

Steve Yzerman inked Walman to a three-year contract extension ($3.4 million AAV) in February.  World Championship appearances or not, he is an important part of the team’s foundation… but this injury will surely leave some fans a little uneasy and deservedly so.
