Red Wings Hire Bryan Campbell as Director of Statistical Analysis and Hockey Administration

DETROIT, MICH — The Red Wings have announced that they hired Bryan Campbell as their Director of Statistical Analysis and Hockey Administration. After digging through the Internet vigorously, I found nothing that could point me in the right direction to who he is. I even speculated that this could be the same University of Michigan student that Mike Babcock had mentioned in the past. Finally, I reached out to a source, and got the information I was looking for on the newly-acquired member of the Red Wings front office:

Bryan Campbell begins his first season as director of statistical analysis and hockey administration. Joining the organization in the summer of 2015, Campbell will work closely with Executive Vice President and General Manager Ken Holland and Assistant General Manager Ryan Martin, focusing advanced statistical analysis and analytics in the areas of salary trends, contract valuations, free agent market acquisitions, trades and other areas, as well as comparative research for contract negotiations and salary arbitrations, collective bargaining agreement administration and compliance and coordinating player transactions. He will also scout games locally at the professional, collegiate and junior levels.

A 2006 graduate of Union College with a degree in mechanical engineering, Campbell played college hockey and skated in 100 games with the Dutchmen from 2002-06. He went on to earn a master’s degree in business administration at York University. Before his time with the Red Wings, Campbell worked in finance in New York.

Campbell is originally from Glanbrook, Ontario, and currently resides in Royal Oak.

All information listed above was provided by the Detroit Red Wings

Not only will Campbell be taking care of statistics, he will handle salary efficiency, trends, contract evaluations, scouting and CBA related issues. Seems like they got themselves a true all-in-one Hockey Administration guy.

A full bio will be available on Campbell later today on the Red Wings website.
