Teemu Pulkkinen, Drew Miller Out “A While” No Call-ups Expected

DETROIT, MICH — After a dominating 5-1 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night, the Red Wings found themselves two men short with the injuries to forwards Teemu Pulkkinen and Drew Miller. If you missed the injuries, here’s a look at both of them for you:

According to Helene St. James’ most-recent article, head coach Jeff Blashill says they are still evaluating both players, but it looks like they will be out “a while.” As of right now, we don’t know the severity of either injury, but it doesn’t look good for both players. St. James goes on in her article to explain the plan in terms of roster decisions:

General manager Ken Holland told the Free Press no call-ups are planned for Saturday’s game, as Tomas Jurco and Joakim Andersson are available.

No call-ups? Seems weird, right? Not so much. The Red Wings have home games on Saturday, and a couple of days worth of rest until they play the Capitals in Washington. It sounds as if both Andersson and Jurco will be in the lineup for Saturday, and Tuesday, which gives the team time to evaluate both injuries, and make a roster-based decision.

If somebody needs to be called up, that will require that a player be placed on injured reserve, meaning he would have to miss at least seven days. The IR placement can be back-dated to the day of the injury, so putting either Pulkkinen or Miller on IR guarantees them missing at least the Nashville & Washington games, as well as next Thursday’s tilt against Montreal.

The most likely player to be called up from the Griffins would be Andreas Athanasiou, but there is a chance we could see players like Tyler Bertuzzi, or Anthony Mantha make their Red Wings debut late next week when the Wings face a back-to-back against the Montreal Canadiens, and New Jersey Devils.

Who would you like to see called up?

Andreas Athanasiou 292
Tyler Bertuzzi 66
Dan Cleary 46
Anthony Mantha 166
