Ranked 174th: While he is a lanky goaltender, Gylander plays strong and takes a systematic approach to the position and is very technical. He makes tough lateral saves look easy due to his reach and quick feet. His athleticism allows him to avoid excessive scrambling to make follow-up stops while keeping his frame angled properly to the shot. He gets out on top of his crease and keeps a good low posture, which deters opponents from taking low shots. He plays with a cool and collected demeanor when facing long-range shots and shows good tendencies to swallow pucks far and near, forcing his opponents to make the first move so he can react accordingly to make the save. He’s strong off the post and keeps his angles in check, pushing off strong and altering his position as play moves around. His size allows him to use his blocker and trapper to effectively to cover the high portions of the net. Selected to play in the 2019 CJHL Top Prospects game for Team West, he played the final 30 minutes of the game and stopped 16 of 17 shots he faced. He will return to play for the AJHL’s Sherwood Park Crusaders next season before embarking upon his college career with the Colgate University Raiders for the 2020-21 campaign. He has a solid foundation to build upon and should be able to continue his progression to advance to higher levels of hockey.
