Christian Fischer will not be reporting to the Grand Rapids Griffins after he was placed on waivers by the Red Wings Wednesday. The forward and Michigan-native was claimed off waivers by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Fischer, a depth player for Detroit, found himself as the odd-man out once the Wings decided to call up forward Carter Mazur from the Griffins. Fischer was a serviceable bottom-line player that did his job — and that was to grind out tough minutes for his team. He was a nice role player to have but ultimately the need for his services started fading weeks, even months ago. Fischer had one goal and six assists in 45 games with Detroit this season.
Fischer carries a cap hit of $1.125 million, which comes off of Detroit’s books with Columbus claiming him.
