Red Wings place Dan Cleary on Waivers

DETROIT — The Red Wings have placed veteran forward Daniel Cleary on waivers. Teams have until noon tomorrow to claim him (haha)

With the season about to start for the Red Wings, and a handful of injuries at bay, the Red Wings needed to make room for Jakub Kindl to come off of IR without going into a back-to-back with only six defensemen. My guess is that the choice essentially came down to Joakim Andersson, or Dan Cleary. We all know that Andersson is a much more serviceable player than Cleary, so this was really a no-brainer for the team to make.

So like I said before, Cleary has until noon tomorrow to clear waivers and be assigned to Grand Rapids. Could he possibly end up being claimed? While the answer is probably no, you can’t help but to speculate. My guess is that ol’ Charlie Bucket (Cleary’s nickname) will be parking his rear on the west side of the state. With all that being said, the Wings can now keep Xavier Ouellet up without sending him down. I imagine he will see time as the 7th defenseman, since Alexey Marchenko is currently injured.
