The Red Wings have announced that forward Drew Miller has been placed on injured reserve after sustaining a lower-body injury in last night’s tilt against Anaheim.

With Miller being moved to IR, this alleviates the Red Wings of his $1.35 million cap hit, and creates space for defenseman Kyle Quincey to make his return tonight against the Los Angeles Kings.
The Red Wings found themselves in a cap-crunch recently, which lead them to putting defenseman Jakub Kindl on waivers. After Kindl cleared waivers, the Red Wings were only left with $950k of cap relief. Detroit’s general manager found himself between a rock and a hard spot with this, as the team needed just north of $1 million to have enough space for Quincey’s activation. There were statements from Holland yesterday that if no one was injured in Anaheim, they would need to make additional moves. Miller’s injury now leaves the Red Wings free from making any sort of additional roster moves. However, the severity of his injury has yet to be seen. It’s an extremely interesting situation, and we have very little knowledge of what is going on with him, outside of it being lower-body-related.
