The Red Wings did some shuffling on Sunday by placing goaltender Ville Husso on waivers. Report from Eliotte Friedman:
Detroit is in a tough spot with both Christian Fischer and Jeff Petry temporarily sidelined. By putting Husso on waivers, the Wings essentially create space for another player. I believe that player will be Austin Watson, who has three assists through a pair of games with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Now, there is a chance where Husso gets claimed by another team. There are a couple of teams reeling at the position right now, but Ville is on the last year of a contract that carries a $4.75 million cap hit. He’s an expensive gamble at this point.
The Red Wings will play the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden Monday night. After a shutout win over the Nashville Predators, this move would suggest that Cam Talbot is in line for back-to-back starts.
