With the injury to Alexey Marchenko, and quite possibly Kyle Quincey, it's not a huge surprise that they've made a call-up to help bolster the defense.
Ouellet has an AHL career-high 29 points in 61 games with the Griffins this season.
The Red Wings enter the next game down 3-1 in the series against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Ouellet has seen some limited time in the NHL this season, and wasn't exactly an impact player for the team. Despite that, the 22-year-old Bayonne, France native will add more youth to the Red Wings as they try to force a game six against one of their division rivals.
Ken Holland keeps things close to the vest this time of year, so this is as much clarity as we're going to get.
Red Wings have called up D Xavier Ouellet. Per Ken Holland, it's "Insurance. Only have 6 d available " Alexey Machenko unwell after G3 hit.

Most feel that Kyle Quincey's healthy scratch in game 3 wasn't exactly healthy and that him playing in game 4 was only because he was slightly healthier than Marchenko, but we'll have to wait and see how it all plays out.
