Red Wings Recall Landon Ferraro, Zach Nastasiuk Reassigned to Grand Rapids
DETROIT-- It surfaced today that the Red Wings have recalled forward Landon Ferraro from Grand Rapids. I imagine this is a move in response to the injury of Justin Abdelkader, who could be out for some time.
Gotta think this will also mean that Daniel Cleary won't be seeing much time in the lineup, and Landon will take his place in the bottom six. Ferraro has had a productive season in the AHL. With Mitch Callahan out for the rest of the season, Ferraro was the next guy on the list to be called up. He only has four career NHL games, in which he hasn't been able to get on the scoresheet. Regardless, he'll be a much more valuable player to the Wings than Cleary. This gives Ferraro a good chance to show the organization that he deserves a contract, since he is a pending RFA. Landon Ferraro has scored 42 points in 70 games, with a career-high 27 goals.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Ferraro call up is due to a possible injury to Datsyuk or just so Babcock has other offensive options. Will know Datsyuk status Tuesday.</p>— Chuck Pleiness (@wingsfrontman) <a href="https://twitter.com/wingsfrontman/status/585162768573042689">April 6, 2015</a></blockquote>

Not sure if this is speculation on Pleiness' part, but if this is true, then that could drastically change things. Cross your fingers.

GRAND RAPIDS-- In addition to Detroit recalling Ferraro, the Red Wings have reassigned 2013 2nd round draft pick Zach Nastasiuk to Grand Rapids, after Owen Sound was eliminated from the OHL playoffs at the hands of Tyler Bertuzzi and the Guelph Storm.
Nastasiuk was taken 48th overall, and has since been had a very productive career at the junior-level. Nastasiuk had a career season with Owen Sound scoring 35 goals, and 42 assists in 77 games. There was a lot of speculation during camp when he was sent back to the junior league, but it was simply a matter of his age. Zach's career in the OHL is over, and he will now be a full-time player at the pro-level. Nastasiuk is highly praised by head coach Jeff Blashill as being a model for the Red Wings' "every-day" type player, and you can expect him to give him a real shot to succeed under Blashill's regime. There's no doubt that Nastasiuk is one of the more underrated prospects in the Red Wings system, and he's been a personal favorite of mine since his draft date. This will no doubt bolster an already highly dominate Griffins roster for their big push into the AHL playoffs, in which they have already clinched a trip to.
